My name is Shine Thao, and I am a senior at Western Carolina University. I am majoring in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Business Administration. My career goal is to serve as the public relations representative for an organization or to work for a PR firm. I would also like to be a PR director for a nonprofit organization.
I am the current secretary and an active member of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Being a member of PRSSA has given me a better insight into what a PR person needs to do to perform his/her duties well. I have also had the opportunity to attend events as well as explore businesses and organizations, which have provided me excellent opportunities to network with professionals and other students.
I am currently working as a social media and publicity coordinator for an organization on campus. I actively post on Facebook and Instagram about what our organization does, our values and mission, when our meetings are, and promoting our event.
I was also fortunate to have been part of a team that created a crisis communication plan for a local business. It gave me a real-world insight into what it was like working with a client and an opportunity to create a plan that could help during a crisis.
I am a hardworking, flexible, and responsible individual. Once my mind is set on a goal, I will not stop until I can reach it.
