The link to the image I used to design this mount bracket is below.

28BYJ-48 (cookierobotics.com)

My first step to complete this assignment was to draw the bracket to the correct scale using a cad software. In this case I used OnShape.com to design this part. Making the bracket to the scale of the stepper motor was the most difficult part.

I first started a new sketch in OnShape and copied and pasted the picture of the dimensions of the stepper motor, which is located in the link above, into my new sketch.

I created a line of no particular length and used that line and construction lines to line up the center of the two holes where the stepper motor would be braced with the line that I had drawn so the dimensions of my drawing would be correct. This would make sure that the distance between the two holes on the stepper motor would be the same distance between the two holes of the bracket.

I made a rectangle 50mm in length and 25mm in width to be sure that the stepper motor would fit the bracket even if the 3D printer wasn’t as accurate as expected. I lined this rectangle up with the drawing and used the construction lines that I previously drew to mark the center of the holes in the bracket.

I created to circles of diameter of 4mm where the holes for the stepper motor should be and used the drawing in the background to create a big hole with a diameter of 12mm in the center for the motor shaft to fit through. All of these holes were designed big to compensate for any error in the 3D printing process.

4. After all my circles we created and everything was lined up with the dimension drawing, I finished the sketch and extruded the part excluding the circles to leave those as holes.

5.Now that the part where the stepper motor goes is completed, the part that would hold the whole bracket to the robot needs to be created. This is a simpler process. I created a new sketch off the previous part that I had just created and drew a rectangle and made it the same length and width across as the previous part.

6.After this new rectangle was drawn, I added two circles of diameter 4mm in a spot about in the middle of the bracket far enough to the edge that the stepper motor wouldn’t interfere when screwing the bracket to the robot.

7.Then, I extruded the piece excluding the two circles, so they turned into holes. Be sure that the new extruded part becomes a part of the first extruded part so when it gets 3D printed it is all one piece.

8.After I did that then the CAD portion of this assignment was completed.

After the part was designed, I had to truly create it.

I used a Prusa Slicer to pick the infill and get everything ready for the 3D printer to print off my part.

Since it is a bracket for a motor, I set the infill to 50% and did not add any supports. Then I uploaded it to a thumb drive.

After that I went to the lab, plugged in my thumb drive and let the 3D printer print off my bracket. This took about an hour, but it came off the printer with no problems.

The last step was putting the stepper motor and the bracket together. I just got two screws and two nuts and screws the two pieces together.

I was assigned the task of producing a mount to hold my 28BYJ-48 stepper motor for a future project.
