My name is Sommer Allen. It wasn’t until a couple of months before college that I realized I wanted to go to school for engineering. Although I didn’t know which kind of engineering. I began researching the various types of engineering and started teaching myself the basics of coding. Eventually, I decided that Engineering Technology with an Electrical and Computer concentration would be best for me. I am a member of Alpha Lambda Delta. I also serve as the Media Manager for the National Society of Black Engineers and the Secretary for the Society of Women Engineers. I am the President of the Kappa Alpha Chater of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. During the 2022-23 school year I worked on building a soil-moisture sensor to measure the humidity of indoor house plants. In November of 2022, I submitted my project to the 2023 National Conference for Undergraduate Research. I was accepted in December of 2022. In October of 2024, I a project titled on a project titled “A Biomechanically Informed Approach to Atypical Patellar Ligament Reconstruction,” at the 2024 Biomedical Engineering Society Annual Meeting.
