For this assignment, I was tasked with producing a hub that would securely fit onto a stepper motor shaft and then create a wheel with the securely fitting hub for my firefighting robot. My first step during this process was to get the dimensions of the stepper motor shaft so I could create a hub that would fit it perfectly. To get the dimensions correct for the hub, I uploaded a picture of the stepper motor from the website below into my CAD software.
I used OnShape as my CAD software to design the hub. I used the picture that I had uploaded into Onshape to draw up a sketch of my hub and then once I had the proper dimensions I extruded the piece, and my hub was created.

After I created my hub, I went to the 3D printer to print off. The first print took about 10 minutes to complete and was just barely big enough to slide over the stepper motor shaft. A picture of my hub is below.

After the first try of creating the hub for my wheel it fit the shaft so, I kept the dimensions of the hub the same and used Onshape to design the wheel that went with the hub. For this design I opened my hub sketch and then created a 90 mm circle around the hub for the wheel diameter. I then added ellipses to the circle to give my wheel a design and to help with printing time. After I had my wheel sketched and designed the way that I wanted I extruded it 3mm to connect with my already created hub so my wheel and hub would be one single part.

I then 3D printed my part. It took around 1 hour and 15 minutes to print off. Sadly, it did not turn out too well. A picture of my first wheel and hub part is below.

Since my first print didn’t turn out very well, I had to reprint. My partner also used a different design than I originally used so I had to go back and redesign and reprint my wheel. Redesigning my wheel wasn’t very difficult. I just had to add a couple of ellipses to my wheel, and it would match my partners wheel design. However, I also extended the hole for the shaft in my hub but 0.02 mm just so it would be a better fit since the first design was an extremely tight fit. A picture of my new design is below.

After I corrected my design, I used a 3D printer to print it off. My final wheel and hub part is below.
